For on this great day, the long-awaited UK premier of the video for Welcome To The Black Parade occured at 1pm this afternoon on MTV2.
If I had known about that I would of 'disappeared' during RS... but alas, there are ways to catch up... through recordings of it of course :]
But alas, this isn't exactly the video you would expect to come from My Chemical Romance. In fact, it's nothing like the rest of their videos.
Why?
Because it seems to have all the trademarks of a Sam Bayer video.
For example. The classic different speeds as seen in American Idiot, the random flashes and blurs that we saw in Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, as well as old-fashioned and aged tape...
The really depressing part was the acting. There was no acting at all on the band's part and the chap playing the Patient... well, he looked about 30 and hadn't even lost his hair, which doesn't even make sense if you now the whole plot of the song.
Did Mr. Bayer not pay attention to the line "I'm not a man, I'm not a hero, I'm just a boy"? Because that guy is way past puberty I tell you
However, there are some upsides... for once, we have decent shots of Bob Bryar! Other than Gerard and the occasional blurred shot of Mikey, the camera is constantly on Bob, even more so that Ray or Frank... in fact, Ray's solo's get completely not filmed, and the only close-up of Ray misses off his head. Okay then...
And there is a slight theatrical element too... :]
You'll see.
But Marc Webb could of made it so much more... :[
So yes it's tacky, yes it's unexpected, but it IS My Chemical Romance, and if it wasn't such a good song I would give the video a 2... but it can make do with a 4, only because Gerard is looking rather pretty throughout :]
