During an interview with Kerrang!, a certain special Gerard Way has spilt some more of the beans about the new album.
According to Gerard, "Salvation and redemption" are "recurring themes" on the new record. Gerard also states (but in manymanymanymanyMANY more words) that this record is going to be darker than Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge. Who would of even thought that possible without turning into Marilyn Manson?
And as for the sound of this dark new record, Gerard seems very confident. He says "It's a very classic-sounding record. Obviously we are a contemporary [meaning modern] band, but we've always been influenced by older bands and their sounds. It's very epic, very sweeping, and very sad. There are a few songs on the record that are very difficult to listen to and they kinda beat the shit out of you!"
Now, Gerard admits they have a title for this record, but once again, he won't reveal it. But he does say that three confirmed songs for this record are "Famous Last Words" (which I'm guessing will be the final track, and Gerard says it's one of the most important songs on the record),"Dead!", and "How I Dissappear". Two videos have also been shot, the second one being the cause of drummer Bob Bryar's and Gerard Way's injuries, which Gerard confirms himself. He says he can't give to much away about the videos, but he does say "The shoots were so phenomenal and so carthartic, with the second one especially, it felt like we excersied a lot of demons".
This brings us on to whether it'll still sound like My Chemical Romance. Gerard says "I think people will be very suprised. It sounds like My Chemical Romance but that's only because it's the same five people. There's nothing that sounds like this. It's daring."
Now, all those who have been paying attention to the thank you's at the end of the albums would know that this is Bob's debut record. So how Gerard says it's still the same five people, I don't know. Unless Matt magically transformed himself into a new drummer, which I don't think is likely.
Gerard states that he is walking on crutches, but the band will be playing the Carling Weekend (Reading and Leed's Festivals) and the K! sponsered show at the London Hammersmith Palais.
Gerard is so confident about the new album, that he slips this in. "Our fans are so smart, so special, and so unique that I feel this record is a reflection of them. We are so, so tremendously proud of it. We're actually getting frustrated having to wait for people to hear it! We can't wait for you to hear it." Awwwwww.
The new record will be released on the 23rd October via Warners.
And just to annoy all you groupie-teenie type people out there, I'm saying nothing about Gerards new do/Frankies new do or beard/Rays stubble/Mikeys do and glasses-less look/Bob's emo fringe. Okays?
So Long And Goodnight...
Yazz
